Cocolat & O'Connell Street Bakery

One of my favourite places to rest my feet mid-shopping in town is Cocolat on Rundle Street! A few friends and I stopped by for a little afternoon treat.

Chilli Hot Chocolate

Definitely one to try if you love yourself a bit of chilli! So perfect on a cooler afternoon when you need to warm up a little. This is one of my favourite items on their menu! 

Iced Chai

I'm rarely disappointed by Cocolat, except that one time where they served me the most terrible macarons (seriously, the stuff of nightmares). So yes, avoid the macarons, but basically everything else is delicious!

I had to sneak this in somewhere. I don't visit the O'Connell St Bakery often, but whenever I do, I will most likely end up walking away with one of these!

Nutella Heart

Essentially a donut-like dough filled with nutella and topped with a sweet and sticky glaze. What's not to love? I highly recommend it!

Hahndorf Day Trip Part 2: Otto's Bakery and Chocolate @ No. 5

Fresh off the bus that morning, we first decided to go for a walk up Main St.

We managed to walk the entire length of the street and stopped at Otto's Bakery after my friend Dimi said her father recommended it.

We were very keen for lunch, however The Haus doesn't serve lunch until 12pm on Saturdays and it was only about 11am, so we decided to stop for a quick coffee/tea break.

Earl Grey tea $3

Blueberry cheesecake $4 (I think)

We didn't want to eat much because we knew we would be treating ourselves at lunch, however there was something very appealing about this. It was tasty, but nothing too special in my opinion. I'm glad we shared it because our lunch was rather spectacular! 

The pies also smelt delicious but we managed to resist them. My friend who lives in Hahndorf says the people who work there can be rather grumpy, which coincides with the comments on Urbanspoon. On this experience, the young girl who served us was very friendly!

A few hours after lunch and just before we left, we decided we just had to stop at Chocolate No. 5.

If you have seen my post about our lunch, you'll understand when I say that there was no way we would have been able to fit Belgian waffles or even some fondue in our stomachs, even 3 hours after lunch! We opted for a warm drink each since it was starting to rain lightly.

Earl Grey tea $4

Chai Latte $5.50

One of the best chai lattes I have ever had, and absolutely perfect on that chilly afternoon. It was so smooth and creamy, and didn't leave that awful powdery aftertaste that you get with cheaper ones. Try it if you love yourself a good chai latte!

I'm a little disappointed that I wasn't able to try more of the menu, but I definitely will on my next visit! I've heard from that the waffles are absolutely delicious, so they're definitely on my To Try list.

Red Door Bakery [3]

After my last year 12  exam, I knew I didn't want to go out to eat because I just wasn't in the mood to be chirpy and look presentable after 3 hours of Chemistry, so I visited Red Door Bakery to pick up a few goodies to take home and enjoy!

Lentil, pea and spinach pie $5.50

I love how I could taste the individual ingredients and textures. Definitely a nice alternative to the usual beef or chicken pie.

Hazelnut Praline Twist $3.50

Not overly sweet, and the pastry was nice and light. My little brother really enjoyed this! 

Crème brûlée tarts $4.50

Love love love these! I get them every time I visit and just don't think it's possible to dislike these if you enjoy crème brûlée. 

There's not much to say other than everything was absolutely delicious and I'm never left disappointed after any visit!

Jenny's Gourmet Bakery

If you've done year 12, you'll know that one week prior to the start of final exams is extremely stressful. Thank goodness Jenny's Bakery is only a 10 minute drive away from school and chock-a-block full of cronuts in the morning to help ease the stress away!

The flavours for the day were Fruchoc, salted caramel and chocolate brownie.

Chocolate brownie and salted caramel cronuts $5 each.

These are so worth the hype! I tried a bit of both and my favourite was definitely the salted caramel. Although the only distinguishing feature that made it a 'salted caramel cronut' was the delicious, gooey sauce on top, it was delicious! I do regret not trying a Fruchoc one as well, but I think I'd had more than enough carbs for the day.

So worth the drive down to Glen Osmond Road! I can't wait for my next visit.

Red Door Bakery [2]

Hi everyone,

Today, I paid a very brief visit to the Red Door Bakery. It was pouring outside and very packed inside!
This was my second visit and I already had in mind what I wanted to try; a salted caramel brick. My sister's friend knows I love salted caramel and recommended that I try one the next time I visit.

 Salted Caramel Bricks $4.50 each

Creme Brulee Tarts $4.50 each

I ended up picking these up for myself and my family.

I would probably describe this as a rich, decadent, chocolate-y brownie filled with delicious salted caramel, topped with a layer of chocolate and sprinkled with salt. I love the fact that the salted caramel is perfectly salty, and that it oozes out of the 'brick' once you take a bite. Everything just works so well together, and I definitely recommend you give it a go if you're a salted caramel fanatic like myself!

This is definitely a place worth the hype, and if you've been needing a bit of a nudge to go and visit, this is it! I still need to try more of their goodies, but what I've had already has been delicious. I know for sure that I'll have to visit some time for a coffee. The people who work there are always really lovely, too!

Red Door Bakery

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and to all high school/uni students who have upcoming exams, I hope you're all studying extra hard, but don't forget to take some time off to relax and do something fun to reward yourselves!

On Saturday afternoon, mum and I were doing some shopping and on our way home, I suggested we stop by the Red Door Bakery because I'd heard so much about it and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It was such a gorgeous, sunny afternoon and we were very tempted to have coffee there, but we decided we'd rather bring a whole bunch of goodies home for the rest of the family to try as well.

This is the first place I've visited which actually does suspended coffees. I think it's a lovely idea :) Read more here if you're not familiar with this.

See the empty tray covered in sugary-syrupy-goodness in the top left hand corner? 

That would be because mum and I bought the last few crème brûlée tarts!

Crème brûlée $4.50 each

I've heard so much about these and was super excited to try them! I didn't even edit the pictures of the tarts. They really do look that amazing! 

It was DELICIOUS! The custard is so creamy and there was the perfect amount of vanilla in it. The pastry was just a little bit flakey yet still soft and tasted so good with the custard. Not the entire top was crunchy, but the bits that were tasted fantastic. I definitely recommend this - seriously, go check it out asap!

Pork and Sage $5

This is something else I've heard people rave about so of course I had to pick one up! 

It was SO delicious. The pastry is incredibly tasty - so buttery and flakey! Personally, the filling didn't stand out as much to me as the pastry but it was still delicious. This was my siblings' favourite thing that we brought back. My brother didn't even want to let my sister try some! 

I honestly don't think I'll be able to eat another standard sausage roll again...

Moroccan Eggplant and Lamb $5

I have been loving lamb lately so this caught my attention. 

I loved the flavour of the filling and how you can actually see what the ingredients are. This goes for both rolls - I really liked how you can actually see what you're eating. I really couldn't pick a favourite between the two! Both are worth trying, in my opinion. 

Olive and Rosemary Stick $3.50

Mum picked this one out because she's a fan of olive bread. I didn't love this as much as I thought I would (I'm a HUGE fan of olives!) - the dough was a bit tough for my liking and the olives were so salty. We saved some for dinner and stuck it in the oven, and I think that improved it a little. 

I think this is definitely a place worth visiting. The staff are so friendly and the food is fantastic! I think next time I visit, I will definitely have a coffee as well and dine there, just to get the full experience. I never realised how lovely Queen and Elizabeth Streets actually are - there are so many cute little cafes and boutiques! Can't wait for the next time I visit! And another bonus, it's less than 5 minutes away from my house.
Overall, 9/10.
